Central Noble student raising funds for
Doctors Without Borders
ALBION —
An 18-year-old Central Noble student will be raising funds for the
organization Doctors Without Borders in an unusual way on
Saturday.
Raymond Angel of Ligonier has
entered a worldwide event to raise money for charities called
Blogathon. On July 26, the entrants will post a message to an online
journal, or “blog,” every 30 minutes for 24 hours in exchange for
pledges. To read Angel’s blogs and/or pledge money to his cause,
visit http://blog.rayangel.com/.
To
pledge money using postal mail, write to Raymond Angel, 3758 N. C.R.
600W, Ligonier, IN 46767. Include your name, address and amount you
wish to pledge.
Angel welcomes pledges in any
amount, even as small as a dollar. Pledging does not involve online
payment or sending any money to Angel directly.
According to the Doctors Without Borders Web
site at http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/, donations can
be sent directly to the organization. The Web site has information
on methods of donation.
Angel has chosen to
support Doctors Without Borders for his Blogathon effort. The
organization, also called Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), delivers
emergency aid to victims of armed conflict, epidemics, and natural
and man-made disasters, and to others who lack health care due to
social or geographical isolation.
According to
the group’s Web site, MSF was founded in 1971 by a small group of
French doctors who believed that all people have the right to
medical care regardless of race, religion, creed or political
affiliation, and that the needs of these people supersede respect
for national borders. It was the first non-governmental organization
to both provide emergency medical assistance and publicly bear
witness to the plight of the populations they served. |
